Spanner Hands & Labourers required - Immediate Start

Cougar Scaffolding 2020 Limited are looking for experienced spanner hands and labourers for ongoing temporary work in the Wellington region. Immediate start available. Cougar Scaffolding 2020 Limited is a family-based tube & clip scaffolding business based in Upper Hutt.  We specialise in residential and light commercial scaffolding. Spannerhand

 

As a Spannerhand, you’ll be the right hand to our scaffolders, ensuring every structure is assembled, secured, and dismantled with precision. You’ll be the one making sure the gear is ready, the bolts are tight, and the site is safe — helping our crews work faster, smarter, and safer.

 

What You'll Do
  • Assist scaffolders in erecting, modifying, and dismantling scaffolding systems on a variety of sites.
  • Secure fittings, tighten bolts, and ensure all components are correctly installed.
  • Load, unload, and organise scaffolding gear for efficient site operations.
  • Maintain tools and equipment, reporting any faults or safety concerns.
  • Follow all site safety protocols and contribute to a positive, team-focused work environment.
What You'll Bring
  • Previous experience as a Spannerhand or in a similar construction support role.
  • A strong understanding of scaffolding components and safe handling practices.
  • A current Site Safe Passport.
  • Good physical fitness and the ability to work at heights.
  • A proactive, can-do attitude and a commitment to safety.
  • A full driver’s license and/or a class 2 license is preferred but not essential

Pay :  $25-$29 per hour depending on experience, qualifications and capability plus kiwisaver plus 8% holiday pay

 

What we need from you for this spannerhand role:

  • Solid scaffolding experience as a spanner hand preferably with Tube & Clip  – (no beginners)
  • Physically fit and reliable
  • Able to pass pre-employment checks and ongoing drug & alcohol testing
  • Reliable transport to get to the Upper Hutt yard and job sites
  • Legal working rights in NZ
  • Good attitude and commitment to site safety
  • Drivers licence, class 2 preferable.

Labourer

 

As a Scaffolding Labourer, you’ll be the backbone of our operations. You’ll work alongside experienced scaffolders to assemble, dismantle, and maintain scaffolding structures that keep worksites safe and productive. Every beam you lift and every platform you secure will directly contribute to the success of major projects in our community.

 

What You'll Do
  • Assist in loading, unloading, and transporting scaffolding materials to and from site.
  • Work with the team to erect and dismantle scaffolding structures according to safety standards.
  • Maintain tools and equipment, ensuring they’re in top condition.
  • Follow all health and safety procedures to protect yourself, your team, and the public.
  • Support scaffolders with measurements, fittings, and adjustments on-site.
What You'll Bring
  • A strong work ethic and willingness to learn on the job.
  • Good physical fitness and the ability to work at heights.
  • A commitment to safety and teamwork.
  • A current Site Safe Passport or willingness to obtain one (we can help with this).
  • A full driver’s licence is preferred but not essential

This is physical work. You must be able to consistently lift and carry scaffolding materials throughout the day and be prepared to work in all weather. Scaffolding is not light work.
 
Pay :  $23.95 per hour plus kiwisaver plus 8% holiday pay.
